Daily Deviation

Given 2007-09-25
"The deviation was created by `Little-Vampire in partnership with a bunch of others. It's a guide through deviantART in English, Italian, and Portuguese. Personally, I find it incredibly thoughtful of them to put something like this together. And it's fun to go through!" Unofficial Welcome Pack by `Little-Vampire ( Suggested by shadowed-light-waves and Featured by maxwell-heza )

Your Policies sure don't sound very welcoming. Perhaps you need to employ someone who has human communication skills and set them to re-writing your Policies, which currently read like a lot of anal-retentive dictatorial fascism flowing from an inhuman corporate mentality in complete disregard of your paying customers. (They're the people who give you their money, a fact you seem to have forgotten).

I, myself, have no Policies... I'm a random human being and I don't need a policy to be used, actually I'd like if people wouldn't use me at all... but well in life there'll be always someone trying to use you, isn't it?

That said, this is an UNOFFICIAL Welcome Pack, this is in NO way connected directly with the site deviantART, it was not created by paid staff, it's simply a collection of the deviantART site FAQs, translated in different languages (or at least a collection of old FAQs as those changed a lot).

I do NOT work for deviantART, I do NOT write policies, I DO work in a townhall and I DO use deviantART just like you. I do NOT receive any money from deviantART, I do NOT receive money from deviantART members, I DO receive money from the townhall where I work. My customers do NOT pay me for the service I offer as I work in a townhall and people do NOT need to pay for the service I offer in my office. deviantART customers can have FREE accounts or PAID accounts, that's up to the user will, and if deviantART customers have issues they can contact the Help Desk.

So, if you live in Aosta and have a issue with your electoral status, you're talking to the right person! While if you're a random deviantART user and you have an issue with deviantART's policies then you're in the wrong place cause this is a UNOFFICIAL deviations submitted by a random user of the site.

tl;dr
Contact the Help Desk

That's all well and good, but your Unofficial Welcome Pack came to me via the #fella group. That's about as official a dispensary as one will find at this Web site! If you promulgate policies, even though you're not their author, you will be questioned about those policies.

In my view, a Deviation with Fella on the front and deviantART policies inside rather shouts "DeviantART!" So I appreciate the altruistic part of your intent in making that Deviation, but since it came to me via the #fella group and contains deviantART policy it's open to relevant criticism.

Let's analyse the key word of title of the deviation:

Unofficial: un·of·fi·cial (ŭn'ə-fĭsh'əl) pronunciation
adj.
  1. Not official: the unofficial election results.
  2. Not acting officially: an unofficial adviser.

Now let's analyze the #fella gallery!
Deviant Created Tutorials. What does that mean? That the gallery contains Tutorials related to deviantART created by users of the site!

Why is my deviation in that gallery? Cause I'm a user of deviantART that in the year 2007 decided to translate a bunch of FAQs out of boredom and to place them into an Unofficial tutorial to help deviants from different countries in understanding how the site works! (Yeah I know I'm a mean person cause I try to help people that doesn't speak English.. I should end up in jail cause I help people... I'm really really a bad person!)

Now you said:
If you promulgate policies, even though you're not their author, you will be questioned about those policies.
That's like saying "if you use a deviantART you should be questioned about it!" Then can you please explain me all the code of the site? You're using it then you should be questioned about it!

You can criticize as much as you want policies in my page... in all honesty I don't really care! Your questions will stay unanswered cause no $ will bother to get in here and answer them (as the $ are the administrators of the site and they're the ones taking care of policies) and I'll go on living happily cause that's none of my business. If you're unable to understand the difference between a tutorial helping users in understanding the site and the TRUE policy of the site it's your problem and not mine.

From what I see in your userpage you're from the US so you are supposed to know English much better than I do (if you don't speak English better than I do, than that's a huge issue cause I'm Italian and my English is not the best), you're older than I am so you should already have understood from life that if you need answers to questions you have to direct them in the right places and that if you want to "change" things you should do it in the right way and not randomly.

Do you want to change the policies of the site? Then don't comment randomly on a deviation criticizing a policy, use the Suggestions forum and suggest to make the policies more user friendly.

You indulge in flaming and you'll have to go elsewhere to do that. I criticize policy, whilst you believe in stooping to ad hominum attacks. Good-bye! *waves*

"you need to employ someone who has human communication skills and set them to re-writing your Policies, which currently read like a lot of anal-retentive dictatorial fascism flowing from an inhuman corporate mentality in complete disregard of your paying customers"

and she's the one flaming? let's look at the definition of the word flaming, shall we?

to flame (third-person singular simple present flames, present participle flaming, simple past and past participle flamed)

1. To produce flames.
2. (Internet) To post a destructively critical or abusive message, especially to provoke dissent or controversy

now, another definition:

hypocrisy (plural hypocrisies)

1. The claim or pretense of holding beliefs, feelings, standards, qualities, opinions or virtues that one does not actually possess.

I tried including more languages but all the people that offered themselves for translating the FAQs in different languages gave up, or never really answered me back after they noticed the amount of FAQs that had to be translated. It was supposed to have French, German and Spanish too.

Plus also keep in mind that this Unofficial welcome pack is outdated. I made this 2 years ago and most of the FAQs are completely different now.

The thing is that #noticias started existing much later than I made this. I think they created that account around the beginning of 2008, and I started this project in the year 2006 (first we were making some news article and we had some translated FAQs in different accounts, then in the year 2007 I decided to make this welcome pack, first in English only and then translated). At the end of the year 2007 I joined the MN@ team and I decided to give priority to directly helping users, talking to them in #help and redirecting them to the proper FAQs in the forum and such.

I kept on helping users, just in a different way! :)

Thanks for passing by

Grandeeeeeeeee!!
